Details about the role

Estonian Student Satellite (Eesti Tudengisatelliit) is looking for a Legal Trainee to support the organisation’s legal development and daily legal work. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on legal experience in the fields of technology, space, and organisational governance, while working closely with engineers, project managers, external legal professionals, and other members of the legal team who will support and mentor you throughout the role.

The role is voluntary and unpaid, primarily remote with occasional in-person collaboration if required, and is intended for law students interested in technology and innovation. There is a six-month Legal Trainee period, after which you will continue in the team as a Legal Specialist.

Expectations for the candidate

Main Responsibilities:
- Drafting and reviewing contracts related to intellectual property, employment, and partnerships.
- Supporting the organisation’s general legal development and compliance.
- Assisting the management, HR, and finance teams with ongoing legal questions.
- Providing legal assistance to other project teams when needed.
- Conducting legal research, including occasionally reviewing legislation such as the Estonian Space Act and relevant EU space and technology regulation.
- Supporting cooperation with external legal partners, including lawyers from partner law firms and legal teams from other organisations in the space and defence sectors.

Opportunities

What We Offer:
- Practical experience with contracts, compliance, and technology-related legal issues.
- Collaboration with engineers, scientists, and project managers in Estonia’s student satellite programme.
- Exposure to industry partners and legal professionals working in the space and technology sectors.
- The opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant student space initiative.

You do not need extensive prior experience to apply. We primarily look for candidates who demonstrate curiosity, responsibility, and a willingness to learn, experiment, and collaborate in a student team environment. If you are interested in law, technology, and working in an interdisciplinary team building Estonia’s student satellite programme, we would be happy to hear from you.
