Details about the role
Team status: Looking for new members
We’re looking for electronics engineers with a foundation in the field to join our spacecraft team. You’ll contribute to the design, testing, and integration of electronic systems for our satellite projects, including communication, navigation, onboard control, and the CubeSat Command Module’s power management systems.
The role is voluntary and unpaid.
Expectations for the candidate
What we expect from you:
- Around 8 hours of work per week
- Ability to travel to Tartu Observatory on a regular basis
- Solid understanding of electronics — schematics, passive components, and circuit behavior
- Comfort working with Git and following a structured engineering workflow
- Experience with PCB design is a plus
Opportunities
What you’ll be doing:
- Designing and updating PCBs using KiCad
- Debugging and verifying PCBs using lab equipment — oscilloscopes, bench-top power supplies, multimeters, and spectral analyzers
- Researching space-grade components and avionics solutions for satellite applications
- Working on electronics for both satellite subsystems and the CubeSat Command Module
- Collaborating with other subteams to coordinate system integration
- Documenting your work clearly and consistently
We offer:
- Hands-on experience with real spacecraft electronics
- Access to well-equipped labs for PCB soldering and testing at Tartu Observatory
- A close-knit, cross-disciplinary team where communication across subteams is the norm
- Tangible project experience to build your portfolio
