Software Engineering Internship at MATIQ
About MATIQ:
Most people already know what they want to say. What takes time is rereading the conversation, remembering what was discussed, figuring out what needs an answer and finding the right words and tone. When you communicate with dozens of people a day, that effort adds up.
MATIQ is an AI email assistant for people whose email is actual work, not just notifications. It connects to Gmail and Outlook and prepares reply drafts based on your tone and your history with each person. You review, edit and send. Nothing goes out automatically. MATIQ learns from your edits so future drafts sound more like you and need fewer corrections.
It also shows who is actually waiting on you today, so a delayed reply doesn't turn into a missed commitment, opportunity or next step.
Our current focus is making this experience accurate, personal and reliable. Longer term, we want to bring the same understanding of your voice, relationships and priorities to the other platforms you use to communicate.
About the internship:
We are looking for a Software Engineering Intern who wants practical experience building an AI product alongside a small team. You will work on MATIQ itself, on a defined set of tasks matched to your skills and learning goals.
Our stack is a Go backend, a React and TypeScript frontend, PostgreSQL and Docker. A Chrome extension and an Outlook add-in sit on top of the same backend.
What you will work on:
Depending on your skills and interests, some of the following:
- Improving the Gmail and Outlook integrations and how conversation history is retrieved and used.
- Building the review-and-edit flow for AI drafts in the web app, Chrome extension or Outlook add-in.
- Building the dashboard that shows who is waiting for a reply and which conversations need attention.
- Improving the admin panel and internal tooling.
- Fixing bugs, writing tests and improving reliability across the stack.
Your exact tasks will be agreed at the start of the internship. Whatever they are, you will participate in code reviews and document your work.
Internship arrangements:
- Duration: 3 months.
- Compensation: Unpaid
- Location: remote.
- Working language: English.
- Start date and weekly hours: agreed before the internship begins, taking your studies into account.
We will agree on a supervisor, learning objectives and deliverables at the start. We will provide the internship documentation and supervisor assessment required by your programme. Academic recognition is subject to your TalTech programme requirements and your internship coordinator's approval.

- Studies in computer science, software engineering or a related field.
- A foundation in programming demonstrated through coursework or personal projects.
- Familiarity with TypeScript, JavaScript or Go, and willingness to learn.
- Basic understanding of APIs, Git and how web applications work.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English.
- Curiosity, initiative and willingness to ask questions and work with feedback.
You do not need previous professional experience or knowledge of our entire stack.
